Where else is it used?

While mostly invisible to an unsuspecting observer, OR touches and affects almost every aspect of our lives. From healthcare, to mail delivery, to automotive factories, to all stages of supply chains and the list goes on and on. Essentially, anywhere where there is an operational decision to be made, there is an OR model to be found. And more and more applications of it emerge every day, as people get to understand and appreciate the difference a good OR tool can make in their business. This is especially true for bigger companies, where even a slightly better operational plan could translate into millions in savings for the business. Every such decision involves an enormous amount of factors to consider - resources, customer satisfaction, profit, technical limitations, multiple regulations, and of course a vast amount of data to process, with an ultimate goal to find the best possible plan of action.

Optimization is really a unique and very powerful methodology that no ordinary software can deliver.
